SATURDAY INTENSIVE
The Department of Dance at New York University, Tisch School of the Arts is host to the Future Dancers and Dancemakers FREE Spring intensive workshop. The workshop mentored by Tisch Professors identifies talented and highly motivated high school dancers and dancemakers to participate in a comprehensive 14-week program. Designed to support and enhance their current training, participants will engage in many of the components that comprise the BFA program at Tisch Dance. Fifteen young artists will be selected to participate in this free program which is held for 14 Saturdays from February to May. Applicants, in their freshmen, sophomore, and junior year, from the five boroughs of New York City, as well as from Westchester County, Long Island, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Philadelphia are encouraged to apply.
The workshop is two-fold; providing exposure to the Tisch Dance Program while simultaneously reflecting an intensive environment mirroring that of the professional field through:
- Concentration on technical training
- Creative discussions to support the choreographic work and creative process
- Discussions with professional choreographers and Tisch faculty
APPLICATION INFORMATION
Application deadline is October 15, 2011.
Applicants must demonstrate:
- Strong technical foundation in dance and choreography
- Academic achievement
- Ability to work in collaboration with other young artists
- A firm commitment to completing the entire workshop, which will be held on fourteen Saturdays from February through May
Fifteen students will be selected after review of application materials and an interview.
**Applications are reviewed mid-October. Selected students will be invited in mid to late December to come to Tisch for interviews taking place in January.
CURRICULUM
Future Dancers and Dancemakers, similar to Tisch Dance, focuses on technical training, choreography, and performance. Students take two technique classes daily, one each of ballet and modern. All students will also study dance composition, improvisation, and repertory. The workshop will produce a final concert of student work created over the 14-week intensive.
FACULTY
Future Dancers and Dancemakers (FDD) will be taught by Tisch Dance second year MFA candidates. The graduate teaching candidates that participate in FDD are experienced teachers, performers, and choreographers. As distinguished MFA candidates from all over the country they explore their distinct voices to share their knowledge in their specific area of interest. Each graduate teaching candidate must exhibit a special interest in pedagogy and are mentored by one or more faculty members of Tisch Dance.
