Biography

B.A., Bennington College; M.A., New York University.  Studied with Martha Graham, José Limón, Merce Cunningham, Viola Farber, Nenette Charisse, and Lawrence Rhodes. Has performed with Anna Sokolow, Lotte Goslar, Phyllis Lamhut, James Cunningham, New York Shakespeare Festival, and American Dance Festival Repertory Company. Former artistic director of her own company, Linda Tarnay and Dancers. Choreography grants from National Endowment for the Arts and the New York State Council on the Arts; Creative Artists Public Service Award (CAPS). Founding member and trustee of Dance Theater Workshop. Taught at Bennington College, Connecticut College, and Princeton University. Artist-in-residence at the Yard. Director, Transitions Dance Company, Laban Centre, London. Dance director of the Choreographers and Composers Project, American Dance Festival. Director, American Dance Festival International Choreographers Residency. Panelist, Fulbright Selection Committee, Princess Grace Awards.  Recipient, 2007 American Dance Festival's Balasaraswati/Joy Ann Dewy Beinecke Endowed Chair for Distinguished Teaching.
